Registration

Please come and sign in at the registration desk from 8am where you will receive your number to be attached to the front of your bike and a voucher for Rise + Grind cafe. We will also be taking entries on the day with cash or card payments.

Let us know which distance you have chosen to ride. There are routes for 52 miles , 31 miles and 12 miles.

Under 18s

We need a signed parental consent form from the parents/guardians of all riders under 18. There will be copies of these available at registration, but any under 18s riding without a parent can print the attached form and bring it with them on the day. Anyone under 16 must ride with a responsible adult.

Facilities

Food and drink will be available to buy from Rise + Grind cafe and all entrants will receive a voucher when they collect their number.

Toilets are available at the end of the cafe building. Unfortunately the toilets on the other side of the drive at Smart Trees aren’t available to us this year.

Evesham Adventure Playground will be on hand with their Dr Bike service to make any last minute adjustments to your bikes. They will also have a few of their refurbished bikes available for sale.

Out on the Ride

The routes are all signed with pink arrows until you reach a split point where the different routes head in different directions. Follow the coloured arrow for the distance you have chosen as follows:

Purple – 52 miles

Green – 31 miles

Yellow – 12 miles

Once you have passed the split point you will continue to follow the pink arrows.

There are also GPX files available if you are using a GPS device for navigating. These can be downloaded here:

52 miles https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49647935

31 miles https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49647931

12 miles https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49647921

There will be a chance to fill up water bottles and grab a snack at Radford which riders pass through at 8.5 miles for the 12 mile route, at 21 miles for the 31 mile route, and at 21 & 42 miles for the 52 mile route. On the 52 mile route you need to do a very short out and back to reach the feed station the second time. Look for the “Feed Station” signs before the turn to Abberton.

If you have an incident during the ride then please call us and qualified first aiders will be on hand if needed. Contact phone numbers will be on the back of your rider number.

Please also let us know if you choose to abandon the ride and not return to the finish so that we don’t send the search parties out looking for you.

Finish

When you get back to the finish you’ll be rewarded with a bespoke medal. There will also be more food and drink available at Rise+Grind to replenish your energy levels.

If you have a craving for asparagus then we’ll be selling bunches of genuine Vale of Evesham Asparagus and you’ll be able to pay with cash or card.

On the day of The Asparagus Round Bikeaway the British Asparagus Festival lands at the Fleece Inn in Bretforton with an asparagus auction and music in the orchard. It’s the perfect venue to celebrate a fine day on the bike! Just wear your medal with pride to prove that you’re an Asparagus Round finisher and you’ll receive a 20% discount on food and drink on the 1st June only. Cheers to The Fleece Inn, Bretforton for this very generous offer.

Charity Contributions

Proceeds from the event will support St John Ambulance, Vale of Evesham Community First Responders,  and Evesham Adventure Playground, as well as cycling in the area through Cycle Evesham Vale.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning.

Regards

The Asparagus Round Bikeaway Team

Cyclefest King and Queen of the Hill – in Honour of Wayne Evans

Those of you who have ridden on a social ride with us in the last year would have more than likely met Wayne Evans.

Sadly, Wayne passed away recently and as a group we will certainly miss his ever present smile and encouragement to make it up that last hill that always seems to appear at the end of every ride.

With the blessings of his family, we are honoured to remember him by naming our Evesham Cyclefest 2019 King and Queen of the Hill Trophies after him.

Evesham Cyclefest preparation – Bicycle check and film about ultracycling!

Inspired to Ride

Less than 2 weeks to go for Evesham Cyclefest!

Make sure your bike is in great working order ahead the Evesham Cyclefest by coming along to our bike check evening at Evesham Adventure Playground this Saturday 31st August 2019 and then enjoy a screening of the film “Inspired to Ride” about the first Transamerica Race.

Bicycle checks are happening between 5pm and 7.30pm.
Film showing is between 7.30pm and 9pm.

“INSPIRED TO RIDE” follows a handful of cyclists as they race unsupported in the inaugural year of The Trans Am Bike Race. It’s the antithesis to events like Tour de France and Race Across America. There are no teams, no support vehicles, no special jerseys and not a dime in prize money. 4233 Miles. 10 States. Coast To Coast. Self-Supported.
As they battle lack of sleep, injuries and spirited competition, “INSPIRED TO RIDE” takes you on an invigorating road trip — amidst the jaw-dropping beauty of the TransAmerica Trail with its varied landscapes, intriguing locals and found stories which dot this path of discovery.
Featuring Mike Hall and Juliana Buhring plus many more “crazies”.

There is a suggested donation of £5 to Evesham Adventure Playground, our chosen charity for Evesham Cyclefest, for the bike check and/or film.
The address of Evesham Adventure Playground is:
Woodlands
Evesham
WR11 1XH

You can sign up to the Facebook event here.

We would love to see you there!

Evesham Carnival

In keeping with the theme of this year’s Evesham carnival a group of 14 of our members dressed up as chimney sweeps and even two Mary Poppins!

It was great to be able to show off our “More bums on bikes” banners to the packed streets.

We are delighted to have been awarded 3rd place in the Non-Motorised Float category.
